Density Metrics

Density Metrics In Location Data

Density metrics allow users to easily access how many devices stopped in a given area over time. Now available via our new Density Tables, the density metrics are built to provide insight into population density and foot-traffic trends in any area of interest. They can be utilized in a variety of use cases, such as urban planning, site selection, and event analysis.

Why Are Density Metrics Valuable?

Usually, to calculate density metrics, companies need to integrate several different datasets—like POI and stop data—and calculate density metrics on their own. Our density tables offer a ready-made, easy-to-use solution built upon the HyperLogLog data structure, that can be used to implement your use case quickly and efficiently.

Additionally, our new Geospatial Functions will support your custom analysis by allowing you to convert metrics to your preferred spatial standards (geohash, bing tiles, h3).

New Density Data Tables

Six new tables containing daily and monthly updated metrics allow users to pick and choose parameters that strengthen their analysis.

Three daily updated tables:

  • stoppers_hll_by_geohash
  • stoppers_hll_by_bing_tiles
  • stoppers_hll_by_h3

Three monthly updated tables:

  • stoppers_metrics_by_geohash
  • stoppers_metrics_by_bing_tiles
  • stoppers_metrics_by_h3

Interactive Web App to Demonstrate Density Values

Our team analyzed the visit density of SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California and the surrounding neighborhoods for the month of February. Using many different tiling tools, you can see the influx of people to SoFi Stadium on February 13, 2022, when the sports complex served as the host of Super Bowl LVI.

The tile levels correspond to the degree of precision—higher numbers indicate a smaller scope and higher precision, while lower numbers represent larger areas and lower precision.

For more information about the tiling tools used in this web app, check out our page on tiling tools.
